So this is a blend of a lot of things I have been working with. The terrain is a modified version of my procedural generation. It actually is using 3D models and laying each piece edge to edge.

So this shader get passed the player position and the light radius and the softness of the area around it that is not being lit up. The texture is a  Render texture that tracks a green dot that leaves a path that character has traveled.
